If you have a lactose intolerance, it is clear that you should avoid cottage cheese, yogurt, cream, butter, etc. But this is not the full list. If your body reacts badly to dairy products (whether because of allergy problems or gastrointestinal intolerance), look for them in condensed milk, ice cream, some cocktails, soda and alcohol (sometimes milk is used for filtering), chocolate, cream and cakes, biscuits, nougat, pastries and even ordinary bread; many varieties of sausages, various canned food, some pasta dishes may also contain lactose.
But what about those people who can’t imagine their life without sweets? Actually, there is a solution! Modern manufacturers of dietary ingredients have created some pretty tasty dairy free chocolate for them.
Chocolate is the absolute favorite of many children. Whatever adults or doctors say, kids will always love chocolate goodies. But why are children so devoted to chocolate? First and foremost, it is very-very tasty and sweet. There’s a lot in the news recently about the real dangers of sugar, and too much of it can cause serious health problems. But in moderation, chocolate is a lovely treat, and even has some benefits: chocolate is a powerful source of energy and an ally against fatigue due to the high content of fat and carbohydrates. This delicacy is also considered to be an antidepressant. Judge for yourself: the product can easily reduce the level of cortisol (stress hormone) in the blood plasma and actively deal with symptoms of depression.
The content of the “correct” dairy free chocolate usually includes non-diary cocoa butter. Many mothers have wonderful chocolate recipes to make the life of their allergic kids more joyful. Here’s one of the tasty recipes based on dairy free chocolate:
(almost like truffles, but without adding sugar and fat)
- 3/4 cup of dates (120g)
- 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract
- 1/16 tsp of salt
- 2 tsp of cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons of unsweetened coconut flakes
- 1/2 cup of walnuts or pecans
- Chocolate drops or dairy free chocolate (optional)
Grind thoroughly all the ingredients in the food processor. Put the chocolate mass in a plastic bag and mash it well. Roll it into small balls or bars. Keep them refrigerated.
Of course, it is easy to avoid less common products or the ones that don’t play a significant role in your diet. But if you cannot do without sweets - why deprive yourself of this pleasure? Feel free to enjoy dairy free chocolate, even if you are on a special diet!
