Monthly Subscription Boxes :: Kiwi Crate Review & $10 Off Coupon

Kiwi Crate is a monthly subscription service of craft projects geared for kids age 3-7. Each month you'll receive all the materials you'll need to create two full, themed projects. Heading to the craft store to buy a bunch of materials is a thing of the past when you sign up for Kiwi Crate. Busy parents and caregivers will enjoy having craft supplies contained in one box, ready to make these projects at any time, anywhere you wish. Check out the sample crates to find out what you can expect.

What's Inside?

Inside our Kiwi Crate was two craft projects with all materials included. Literally everything was included, down to the child-safe scissors! The theme of our box was Wind Power.

The two craft projects in our Kiwi Crate were 2 wind-powered cars and a wind sock. Some parent interaction and direction is suggested of course, but for the most part it was exciting to see the independence Buddy had in making his craft projects. I'd show him the step by step instructions from the included booklets for each craft and he followed them. It was like these projects were his prized possessions and HE made them! He was so proud of himself. Since he is obsessed with cars, the wind-powered cars were a fantastic project for Buddy. He's always taking apart his cars so he enjoyed putting his together! This also gave ME ideas on how to make our own cars in the future with things around the house.

Inside each instruction booklet were also ideas on how to talk about wind-power, and suggestions for other ways to play or use any extra materials. We still have the oil pastels set and a little glitter dough left. The wind sock project even came with a Beaufort wind scale sheet to record wind strength. And for even more exploring about wind, there was an "explore more!" card with a web address for more projects. The back of this card also included wind experiments that can be done at home using common objects from around the house like paper, yarn, a spoon, leaf, tissue paper and more.

Sadly, we assembled the wind sock at Grandma's house and forgot to bring it home (we have a very sad kiddo!). And as a result I also don't have photos. But I can assure you it turned out darling and worked just as expected.

Kiwi Crate has an entire design process in place for all their projects. They are designed by parents, reviewed by advisors, and tested by kids before inclusion in a Kiwi Crate box. On the instruction booklets for each craft project there was information on the back about the parent project designer and their inspiration for the craft. This is a special touch that really shows how thoroughly thought out Kiwi Crate is as a whole. The booklets are very clear about how to construct the projects and also include a messiness level, grownup involvement level, and what skills are being practiced (creating, discovering, moving - fine, moving - gross, etc). This way you know exactly what you're getting into before you start so you know that the project is appropriate for the time and place.

We had an awesome experience and Buddy was thrilled about his Kiwi Crate. Our Kiwi Crate also inspired me to figure out some fun ways to explore new concepts and create projects for Buddy on a more regular basis. So it's great for kids, but also for parents too. If you need to find something to occupy your younger kids, especially for summer vacation, definitely consider a subscription to Kiwi Crate!

Pretty Cool! Prep is the hardest things for me to do when it comes to crafts and art time. It's nice to have everything ready to go and in one convenient spot!
