I traveled throughout Britain and Europe for three months during a study abroad program in college. I ate SO many interesting foods and goodies that I would absolutely LOVE to have again. If I could access my favorites without physically traveling back there, I would be thrilled beyond belief. That's where the concept of GothamBox comes in.
GothamBox is a monthly subscription box company that sends you a box each month that is reminiscent of the city that you choose. Currently only New York City and San Fransisco are available, but they are planning to expand to more "gothams" aka cities soon. GothamBox is a fun, exciting way to enjoy a taste of common favorites and special finds from these cities.
This month's New York GothamBox included four goodies that I thoroughly enjoyed! It was definitely a month of sweet goodies, with nothing savory to be found. Definitely a fun box for a sweet tooth like me! Now, GothamBox doesn't portray itself as a healthy-food-only monthly service at all, so keep that in mind. Experiencing another city's food means food that they are known for locally and many times that means sweets! The box also includes a paper with descriptions of each product and a little background on the store (if applicable) and also a postcard with the NYC skyline on it with a personal note from the co-founder on the back. Ahhh, to be in NYC. I'm dreamin'!
- Vanilla Marshmallows by Baked - Made right in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY, these are AMAZING. I've never tried any marshmallows other than the ones you find in the grocery store (you know, totally processed and full of HFCS). These are soft and fluffy! You can taste how fresh these are and I'm excited to take the rest with us on our camping trip coming up in a couple weeks!
- Banana + Cayenne bar by Antidote Chocolate - Made of certified organic ingredients, vegan and gluten-free. Sustainably crafted with a 50/50 blend of raw and roasted Arriba cacao beans and is made from bean-to-bar in Ecuador. As far as taste, it is extremely unique. I didn't taste too much banana, if at all in every bite, but the cayenne heat is evenly tasted throughout and definitely packs a punch! The banana you can actually see is long dried strips on the underside of the bar. Despite being 77% cacoa, it's suprisingly not bitter at all and really quite smooth.
- Cinnamon Vanilla Pecans by Well Dressed Nut - Ummm, let's just say that no one else got to try these! I ate them all in one sitting and loved the light by crunchy texture, and sweetly cinnamon taste. Made in New Jersey.
- Belgian Dark Chocolate Bar by Economy Candy - I'm very familiar with authentic Belgian chocolates since I actually visited there years ago, and this is probably one of the best Belgian chocolate bars I've tried to date. So many are using fillers and cheap ingredients, resulting in an undesirable texture and flavor. This was excellent and melts in your mouth! Not too rich, but perfect for a dark Belgian chocolate.
GothamBox brings you products that represent what New York City is all about! I love to travel, and New York City is definitely on my list. This was incredibly fun to feel so close to what NYC offers and I can only imagine all the amazing little shops and bakeries I'd visit! I'd be thrilled to see what a San Francisco GothamBox would include too. I may be just a couple hours away, but I'm not too familiar with SF. Crazy, I know!
Something else I really like is the philanthropic side of GothamBox. For every box you buy, they donate a meal to help end hunger in that city. Each month they will also double the number of meals they donate to the city that scores the most number of points. A monthly subscription service you can truly feel good about in so many ways!
Overall I feel that the value of these products is a good one at just $20 with shipping included. I know I can probably get each of these online but not for $20 total and I'd be paying shipping too. I also wouldn't know what products truly represent NYC anyway! Although GothamBox doesn't claim to have a certain value per box, I think they do a great job and keep it very fair. So, not only do I think that GothamBox is a great value, but also a unique experience for a monthly subscription box that also supports smaller businesses. Definitely worth a try!
Subscription Option: $20/Month, includes free shipping and you can cancel at any time. You can even switch what "gotham" you would like your box from next!
One winner will receive their own GothamBox!
