About the Designer...
My name is Katie Hanson, I live in central Minnesota with my husband Judd and kids Ava (7), Vaughn (4) and Oden (2). As a young kid, I was always the entrepreneur, from babysitting, paper route, selling sweet corn door to door in my wagon, and serving pizzas at the local pizza place. I have always been "busy" and once I got a real job, got married and suddenly was the mom to 3 kids, I realized I just wasn't busy enough. Really tough to sense my sarcasm. Seriously though, sewing and crafting as a business keeps me grounded and gives me focus in my normal life. I love projects and love finishing them and showing them off! I am an x-ray technologist full time at the St.Cloud Hospital Cardiac Cath Lab, so far from the creative field of my Crafty Chic business. I am a craft blog stalker, love sewing tutorials! They are so much better than cut out ones from the store! I pretty much make everything-sewing I would say is my new specialty especially since the addition of my serger. I started selling cards and baby blankets a few years ago and just branched out to what people need more than want and what sells! I love offering homemade clothing and gift items that people are so proud to own and give. You can find me on Etsy, the Farmers Market in Willmar, and craft shows around central MN and Minneapolis/St.Paul area.
The Crafty Chic has a boutique-style feel with beautiful, unique items for women and children throughout. From baby blankets and clothing to hair accessories and makeup bags, you're sure to love the one-of-a-kind feel she has in her shop!
Katie sent me one of her makeup bags to review. It most resembles the Birds of Paradise Makeup Bag currently in her shop. This bag is approximately 10 inches wide, 4 inches wide, and 2 inches deep. It features a zipper closure, and the inside is fully lined. The bottom of the bag is squared off so it can stand freely. That's always a great feature of a high quality bag. Interfacing has been used between the outside and lining layers so the bag will be sturdy and hold it's shape too. The 3 horizontal strips of fabric create dimension and personality, and really draw out the fun colors used. The fabric flower pin is actually removable, and can be used as a fun accessory all on its own too!
This makeup bag is unlike anything you'll find in a retail store, and each is totally unique because of materials' pattern placement on each bags. No one else will have a bag like yours! The Amy Butler fabrics used compliment and contrast so well, and create a really fun design. The bag is a great size, and not too deep so I can see what makeup I'm grabbing inside very easily. I'm very impressed with Katie's work and attention to detail, and this bag is absolutely gift-giving quality. Katie suggests giving these makeup bags as gifts for birthdays, Mother's Day, teachers, or as a little treat for yourself too! I couldn't agree more! The size of this bag is also great as a pencil/pen case for students too.
